A Great Chest Workout Without Weights to Build Muscle and Burn Fat
Sep 16th
So if you’re like me and want to take a break from blasting your chest with the weights every now or then or your working out a lot at home but still want to develop your pecs then here is a great chest workout without weights that will build your chest, shoulders, triceps and also if that wasn’t enough give your abs a great workout too. This routine is based on four different press up variations that will hit all areas of the chest.?
The four exercises will be broken down into 2 super sets of 2 exercises.
Super set1
Explosive push up – do a normal push up but as you come back from the floor you explode upwards as fast as possible and push your hands off the floor and try to clap your hands together before you go back to your original position. This is a challenging exercise and if you are unable to do these properly then start on your knees rather than your toes.
Wide stance press up -You begin with your hands shoulder width apart and your entire body extended straight. Do not let your back or butt sag. Then place one arm out wide and then lower yourself down, and control your body as you raise it back up. Now bring back the arm back to normal position and repeat with the other hand. Do each arm alternatively for 10 reps each arm. By widening your hand position you will hit the outer side of the pecs similar to what a fly exercise would do.
Do 3 sets of each super set with 60 seconds rest between each super set
Super set 2
Decline push up. So still using the bench/chair put both feet on it and get into a normal push up position.? Keeping your body straight lower your body as far as you can go while maintaining a straight back. Try 10 to do 20 reps. I find the higher your feet the more the upper chest and shoulders will get hit. You will also find that by suspending the feet your abs will get worked hard to maintain your body position.
Close grip press ups. Begin an a typical push up stance, but keep your hands close to each other. Your fingers should almost be touching. Make sure your body stays straight and do a regular push up. By bringing your hands together you will target your inner chest and the triceps more. Your pecs and arms should be well fatigued by now but try to do 10-20 reps per set
Again, perform 3 sets of super sets with only 60 seconds rest between sets.
This is great chest workout without weights for not only building muscle but burning fat as well. If you finish this and are not dripping with sweat then you need to start working harder.
What Makes You Happy?
Sep 7th
“Three grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love and something to hope for.” Joseph Addison
What is it that really makes you happy? Not just OK, really properly happy? My husband Steve is spending 10 days walking in the Pyrenees mountains in France at the moment. He spends 7 hours a day walking up a mountain and then down again. That’s his 40th birthday present. It makes me tired just thinking about it. It makes him really happy.
Last week I had lunch with a friend. She is at that point where her job is getting her down, she’s tired and doesn’t know what to do next. I expected to pray for her, find some words of advice that would help her find a solution to her problems, to encourage her. Instead we spent most of the two hours we had together laughing. We laughed at life in general, we laughed at our lives, we laughed at each other. We both felt like we had been inside a rainbow or under a waterfall. It felt good.
So today I have decided to write down 5 things that make me happy. You can write your own 5 if you like.
1. Being on the beach when the sand is warm between my toes and my kids are jumping down the sand dunes.
2. Talking to my husband Steve late at night when he is sleepy and I always seem to get my best thoughts.
3. Reading cookbooks in bed, especially ones with pictures and cake recipes.
4. Being in an ancient church with the peace and stillness of God and the smell of old oak.
5. Catching up with people I love and haven’t talked too in a while, especially over really good coffee.
Joy does us good. The Bible says that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8 v10). Jesus was often found with friends, in people’s houses, sharing lives and food. Joy helps us maintain a heavenly perspective on our earthly lives. Sometimes it’s good to forget, let it go, be kind to yourself, do something you like.
‘A sense of humor… is needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and some laughter on one’s lips is a sign that the person down deep has a pretty good grasp of life.’ Hugh Sidey, long-term White House correspondent, journalist for Time magazine
Have a GOOOOD day:)
