With Positive Attitude We Can Achieve the Impossible
Sep 10th
In this world, if it were not for people with extremely positive attitudes, many things we take for granted today would not exist.
The first ever academy where I presented a seminar on the philosophy of Vedas was Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. The Wright brothers-Wilbur Wright and Orville Wright-were from this place. They were farmers. They had an idea that man should fly. Now we take that idea for granted, but in those days it seemed impossible. They were trying to invent a machine that would make man fly; people thought they were crazy and unrealistic. “Why are you wasting your time? The birds are supposed to fly, not men, and you are not birds.”
They spent hours, days, months, and years working on these flying machines despite no one respecting or recognizing them. On the other hand, they were criticized and laughed at whenever they failed.
Ultimately, they flew in the sky, but only a few yards. Nevertheless, they actually went up in the air and they saw the potential. And now, look at the power of their positive attitude. What looked impossible at one point has become possible. That is the power of positive attitude of people who believed in the ideal of what they were doing and did not care what anyone or everyone said. They had faith in their ideal. With faith you can see the invisible, you can believe the incredible and you can receive the impossible.
And when that faith is directed to the spiritual path, we attain the ultimate perfection.
6 Tips For Cultivating a Positive Mental Attitude

6 Tips to Kick-Start your PMA
The PMA referred to here is ‘positive mental attitude.’ As a personal growth and performance coaching specialist, I often work with people who tend to see the world through grey tinted glasses. It is fabulously rewarding when these glasses are removed and clients start to see all the love, positivity, options and opportunities that they overlooked on a regular basis previously!
Henry Ford once said ‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.’
Choose to ‘think you can’ and reap the benefits.
Numerous studies report that positive people are happier (even compared to someone with similar levels of wealth and health and comparable social status and networks) and there is medical research to indicate that positive people live longer. We all know individuals that draw others to them due to their sunny, ‘can-do attitude,’ we know positive people that are out there making things happen in the world and we have heard the amazing tales of people’s cancer going into remission or sick people living long beyond their estimated life expectancies simply because they refused to be beaten and believed that things would work out well for them.
This is the power of the positive mind-set. Wouldn’t you like to enjoy these amazing benefits in your own life?
Get started on making positive mental attitude a fundamental part of your approach to life right now with these 6 Tips to Kick-Start your PMA
1. Remain philosophical
When things go wrong, realise that things can’t and won’t always be perfect. Try and see the humour in the unexpected or the annoying. Try this litmus test whenever things go awry – ask yourself; ‘Will I still find this event truly awful when I look back on it in 3 months time?’ If the answer is no, stay calm, deal with the issue and remember that in a short while the present drama will be no more than a distant memory…
2. Trust that you can win
Prepare for the worst, but hope for the very best. Pro-actively do everything you can to get a positive result. Focusing on doom and gloom and all that could go wrong really isn’t helpful to you or those around you. There is no joy in believing you will fail and then saying – ‘see, I was right!’ Be a credit to yourself and strive for success on a consistent basis. If things don’t go according to plan, review point 1 and remain philosophical.
3. Take things one day at a time
Always break big task down into small chunks and take steps towards them, little-by little. This will increase the likelihood of you making some rapid ‘quick wins’ that will boost your confidence and keep you motivated. Set up some milestone points along the way and treat yourself at these check-points as a reward for your dedication and hard work.
4. Think things through
There is no challenge that is impossible to solve – certainly some are difficult, but they are possible nonetheless! Approach a problem from the standpoint that you haven’t yet discovered the answer, rather than taking an ‘it’s hopeless’ approach. Become an analyst of your problem. Step outside the emotion and ask yourself: ”What will it take to resolve this issue?”
5. Draft in support
Hire a qualified coach or enlist the help of positive, encouraging people in your life. Ask a trusted friend to tell you what they most like about you and what they think you do well personally and/or professionally and why.
Next, for one week, make a note of every positive comment and compliment that you receive. Keep this heart-warming feedback on stand-by for those days when the glass is looking distinctly empty. Miraculously it will fill up again when you remind yourself of all that you are capable of and the support and positive regard that others have for you.
6. Act ‘as if’
Even if you are not 100% sure of success in a particular endeavour just yet, behave as if you have already made it! Trust in yourself and take a leap of faith.
Certainty will come with time, but even the great and the good are not always sure of everything. The secret we don’t often realise is that no-one is, not all of the time. Don’t beat yourself up about things – this is the ultimate confidence killer. Respect yourself and give yourself kudos for who and what you are right now (see point 5) and then (refer to point 1) and ‘remain philosophical!’
Stay focused and act ‘as if’ you have already achieved the things that you desire.
Act positively, think positively, have faith and good things will come your way.
