Sep 21st
Do you know that meditation doesn’t just provide ease of mind, but it can also keep you healthy? In fact, it is highly recommended by world-renowned doctors to their patients who are suffering from very serious illnesses, from cancer to cardiovascular diseases.
What Can It Do?
One of the elements of meditation is proper breathing. Breathing helps calm the mind, which is necessary so you can gain full concentration to what you’re doing. However, in the process, you actually usher oxygen.
This element is vital to human life. It is needed by the body cells for virtually all their functions. Without it they are going to become impaired. Sometimes they would just die. Oxygen is also needed by the blood. It causes the red color of the blood. It is also highly related to hemoglobin, which is a hemoprotein responsible for transporting oxygen to different parts of the body.
Meditation can also boost your immune system. For one, it increases blood flow, which means the necessary nutrients needed by the organs will be delivered on time. Subsequently, it reduces heart rate, which is often associated to anxiety and panic attacks. Meditation can bring down your blood pressure and removes stress. Unknown to many, virtually all illnesses are worsened when you’re severely stressed. The body secretes hormones that can elevate cholesterol level and make you more prone to heart attacks.
It has also been known that when you’re meditating, you are actually secreting a hormone called serotonin. This might as well be called a happy hormone, since if you have a higher dose of this, you will feel more cheerful. It is the one that controls behavior and moods. People who lack them can easily feel depression.
Moreover, since your mind is already clear, you can already start getting rid of sleeping issues, including insomnia. Sleep disorders can be caused by a lot of things, some of which may be related to personal problems that are getting more difficult to bear.
How to Improve Meditation
For you to take the full health benefits of meditation, it’s important that you know how to do it properly. First, ensure you can find the right place and time to do it. As much as possible, there should be no external distractions that can take your attention away from what you’re doing. Thus, the best time to mediate will probably be very early in the morning or before you go to sleep.
It will take some time before you can start clearing off your mind. If this is going to be a trouble for you, you can hum or say ohm. Listen to the vibrations the sound creates. By doing so, you eliminate the things that clutter your mind and just bring your focus to the sound.
Breathe in and out properly. Allow the air to fill your lungs and expel them through your nostrils.
You can also supplement meditation with subliminal messages. The subliminal messages can get into your subconscious with the intention of hopefully being able to change the way you see things. Subliminal messages, in this case, are usually affirmations that can boost your confidence or help you get over certain life crisis.
