Controlling Your Own Happiness
Sep 2nd
You control your own happiness. While ridding yourself of all the negativity around may not be easy, especially if you are going through a rough time, it is important to understand that you are the only person that can directly control whether you are happy or sad. Understanding this is the first step to attaining true happiness.
Try to make other people smile. The benefits of doing something like this are far bigger than you would probably expect them to be. Not only will you be impacting them, but you’ll be helping yourself out in the process as well, giving you all the more reason to try doing this. Studies have shown that smiling is genuinely good for you and the well being of your mental and physical state; it doesn’t just feel better, it affects the body’s biological processes in positive ways as well. Putting a smile on another’s face will lead to a smile on yours.
Walking is good for you. It burns fat and makes you healthier. It makes your brain work better and keeps your heart in good shape. Walking keeps you healthy, and a healthy person is a happy person.
Eat more green stuff. Fruits and vegetables help us stay healthy. There’s a reason our parents told us to eat our vegetables when we were younger. Eating plant matter, while not being as satisfying as eating meat, will make you feel good and, in turn, increase your happiness.
Many of us become preoccupied watching TV. Reading books has been known to make us better readers and make us smarter people. It helps you focus, gives you knowledge, and makes your memory better. Try putting down the remote and picking up a book.
Keep in touch with your friends. Sometimes, when you’re feeling down, they can help pick you up. Everyone needs people to vent their frustrations to; a good friend will listen to you complain and be there for you when you need them. If you have friends like this, call them up.
Being around kids and senior citizens can have a great effect on you. Children help us remember what it was like to be a kid ourselves, and older people can impart wisdom that we can benefit from.
You only have one life to live. Make the most of it. Don’t get caught up in the stresses of everyday life. Learn to love the simple things and cherish those that you love. Do this, and you will certainly begin to live a happier existence.
