Fill Up Your Free Time With Creative Things To Do
Dec 12th
You might spend your free time in decorating or fixing your house. Sometimes you may clean the garage, or do some plumbing. At other times, you might want to decorate your home with House of Troy lights, or you would simply work with electric fixtures, and fix some piano lights on your piano. However, you might realize that you want a little more out of your free time.
Filling up your free time with creative tasks is a great idea. Apart from getting rid of the clutter from your wardrobe or cleaning your room, there is a lot you can do. You must realize that you are fortunate enough to find some free time, many people might not be as lucky as you! Therefore, you must do things that are worth the lucky time you have.
Finding time when you have absolutely nothing to do is one great opportunity to spend time with your own self. It is a good idea to meditate. If you are in a constant habit of stressing yourself out due to different things happening in your life, this is a great retreat.
Just sit in a relaxed manner, keep your spine straight, close your eyes and think about something or someone dear to you. Keep taking deep breaths, at least 10 of them. Remove any negative thoughts in your mind. Keep sitting like this for 20 minutes or so, and you will feel relaxed after you are done.
Another idea is to do some exercises or yoga. A small walk will be ideal. You might also find a companion to share this walk with.
One good way to fill up your free time is to do some crafty stuff. If you are too much interested in arts, then you are really going to enjoy this. Painting is something that everyone likes to do. You can paint some pots for your house, or you can even paint walls of your house. Play with different colors, and come up with a bright and fresh idea each time.
If you have a pet living with you, you can give your free time to it. Spend time in grooming or playing with it. Take your pet out for a walk or some playtime outdoors. Not only the pet will love it, but you are going to enjoy it too.
Books are great free-time-fillers. Instead of watching TV, fetch a book and start reading. Joining a book club will also be a great idea. You will be able to find books on every topic that might be of your interest. Moreover, you can also fetch some magazines to kill the boring time. This is what most people might do.
Free time is also a golden opportunity to improve any skill that you have. Whether it is cooking, photography, pottery, writing or just anything, fill up your free time polishing this skill. Find out your best skill, and try to improve it when you have nothing to do.
It might not be easy to find some free time from your busy routine. However, if you do, put it to the best use and have fun!
Oh How Fickle
Nov 20th
We have all heard it said, adolescents don’t stick at anything for long? But is this really the case? Or, is this something that all human beings share because it is part of the human condition? Most of us have times when we stray away from our true goals and missions. That is as much part of the human condition as eating breakfast. So, why is it then that others call people who change their minds or who aren’t persistent fickle?
Well, there may be many different reasons for this, none of which should be taken too seriously. We want to be able to say that is okay to change our mind about things. After all, that is part of progress. But what about not sticking things out? Is it a sin to be wayward in our ways?
There may be many reasons why we may not want to stick to something for long or quit when we may be just getting onto something. Here are a few of these reasons and how to overcome them.
1. Take the requisite amount of time to form proper habits. Experts say that it takes two to three weeks to form a habit. If we don’t spend that long forming the habit, chances are, we won’t be successful. So, we must be patient with ourselves at first.
2. We may discover that we don’t like doing what we thought we did initially. That happens all the time. We may be all excited about trying something only to discover later that we hate doing the activity. That is absolutely okay and acceptable.
3. Sometimes the activity eats up a lot more time than we initially expected. The activity may take up our free time or social time. If this is the case, we may not want to continue with it. If this is the case, don’t feel bad about it. We only have so many hours in a day and we have to choose our activities carefully. If we feel overwhelmed because of too many activities, we should probably quit and take up the activity at some other time.
4. We may discover that we only started doing an activity because someone else was going to try it along with us. But as we continue partaking in the activity, we may discover that this isn’t an activity that we like. If this is the case, it is more than appropriate to quit and find something that we truly DO like.
All of these reasons are legitimate reasons for not sticking to an activity that we started. There are other reasons as well. But I will leave that for another time. But in the meantime, we should try not to beat ourselves up for quitting something that we don’t feel we really want to continue. We should always follow our heart and intuition. If our gut says that this activity or habit isn’t for us, it probably isn’t.
