Anxiety weighs down the human heart,
but a good word cheers it up.
~Proverbs 12:25 (NRSV).

The giving and taking of advice, honest speech, diligence, and blessings for truth and curses for falsehood all come together under the banner of learning for living integrity and freedom in Proverbs 12. It can be hard to find themes out of such an apparent disparate mix of proverbs, but these groupings are visible:

On Taking and Giving Advice

Those on the search for wisdom in life and the right way will listen to advice (verse 15). They don’t mind learning the hard way which is sometimes humiliating for they see that learning is a second chance at success (verse 1). Unlike the wicked, the righteous are just in giving the appropriate advice (verse 5). Their thoughts can be trusted for they know they’re bound by an unsaid code of responsible care.

How are we supposed to learn how to really live life without taking good advice? Likewise, when we are finally in a position to give advice it’s a weighty responsibility that we don’t take flippantly. Who really wants to lead people astray?

Honesty in Speech

Verses 6 and 13 tell us that the words of the wicked will ambush them, but the words of those trying to live uprightly will actually deliver them from trouble. Their honesty will save them, for we’re never condemned for being straight about things.

When people are asked from authority figures what they know about events of interest, we can quickly tell those who are going the right way. Verse 17 states it in very obvious fashion. It doesn’t pay to lie in court or in any sort of legal dispute or any time that the truth is being relied upon punitively for that matter. Truthful lips won’t be betrayed like lying lips (verse 19). God hates the latter but delights in the former (verse 22).

We all know, of course, when we have lied, that even our consciences condemn us, and if they don’t it won’t be long before we really will be found out!

Diligence Pays in Big Ways

There are at least three proverbs in this set that speak to one of the great refrains of Proverbs: diligence. Verse 11 tells us those making the most of their opportunities will have plenty to eat. The diligent, we learn, are destined to rule (in some way), whilst the lazy will always be the vassal (verse 24). Further, the diligent value their possessions, making the most from them (verse 26).

Blessing and Cursing

As with the majority of the proverbs in chapters 10-15 the contrastive quality (characterised in the use of the word “but”) makes it easier to see both blessing and cursing in the same proverb.

Those with integrity are assured of a sound position in life – ground that doesn’t easily move, that’s good to trust (verses 3 and 7). Simple blessings accepted are good for life; the pretentious life is folly (verse 9). The fruit of those on the right path is multiplied (verse 12). There is no harm for these, but trouble follows those who are off track (verse 21).

Have you ever missed hearing and remembering what someone said and then acted upon incorrect information? Perhaps you have not seen something visually important while operating equipment or you’ve missed an important detail when studying instructions. Or, you may be prone to being physically awkward and clumsy when doing hands-on activities. These sensory mistakes occur each day in our personal and professional lives. Alarmingly, they often occur when we are completely unaware of them. Your everyday mistakes may be impacting negatively on your job performance. Is it possible they may be placing your life and the lives of others at risk?

Neuroscience provides the insights and solutions to understand the phenomena of sensory “blind spots.” Your brain is wired to optimally take in sensory information in a preferred sequence of sensory pathways. The last sensory pathway in your sequence of the following is your “blind spot.”

Kinesthetic (“body smart”)

Visual (“picture smart”)

Auditory (“word and sound smart”)

Blind spots are what you normally pay least attention to, but use in everyday situations. Because you do not pay as much attention to these sensory pathways, you often miss information that comes through these channels. Stress, worry, anxiety and distractions increase the probability of paying even less attention to your “blind spot.” It’s important to know your blind spot on an individual and team basis to avoid mistakes and costly accidents. Imagine what might happen if a pilot and co-pilot both had Visual “blind spots” in an emergency situation.

Which category do you relate to the most? This may be your sensory “blind spot.”

Auditory

Misunderstanding or not hearing a verbal instruction or alert

Not attending to a sound that may signal danger

Difficulty finding the right words to express what you are thinking

Tuning out during lecture and auditory situations

Visual

Ignoring or not seeing what’s important

Loss of focus on objects, visual media, gauges and screens

Difficulty with written instructions/tests, comprehensive data and filling out forms

Incomplete visual observations and sensing visual movement

Kinesthetic

Physical awkwardness and tentativeness doing hands-on motor activities

Time lag to react and respond quickly and accurately

Low levels of “gut feel” for assessing a situation

Diminished awareness of physical sensations, vibration, movement

Being aware of what you pay least attention to will help you focus and concentrate when you have to do something important using your sensory “blind spot.” Repetitive awareness of your “blind spot” is a brain strengthening exercise that will minimize putting lives at risk.

Many of our decisions are based upon the Fear of Future Pain. Have you noticed worry, anxiety, pain and fear is usually based on past events. As these past events go left unresolved they seek to influence our future. THIS CAN BE A VICIOUS CYCLE. The future soon becomes your past and as you continue to base your decisions on the past you continually Fear the Future.

The good news is there is a way off of this merry-go-round, that is, if you are tired of going in circles and you are ready for some peace. If your are truly ready for peace, a few things have to happen. Take a long, honest look at yourself. The good, the bad and the ugly areas of your life. Be willing to Give up all of the images of who you believe yourself to be. Try not to leave any stone unturned. The truth is when you get down to the very core of this matter you will discover the culprit of all your misfortunes. Let a man examine himself, before he drinks of this cup, for it is surely bitter.?

Peace is in the present. Father has surely declared that He is Omnipresent, (always present) however, if we continue to spend most of our lives either in the past or in fear of the future, we fail to experience the Peace promised to us, because Father is always in the NOW. Now is the acceptable time.

It can be a daunting task to give up the conceptual belief in what you have imagined yourself to be, because it is ego-driven. It is the path that few will follow, but rest assured you are not alone. It is not difficult to look outside of ourselves and critique a person or a situation and pass judgment without delay. However, our journey within should accompany the same critical observations.

Salvation is within, which is why inward examination is required to find the way back to our True Self. I keep using the word Give Up because that is the only way I can describe it. It’s like, you give up the persona you have created, everything you think you are and all you imagined yourself to be and live from a standpoint of Defenselessness. An illustration of my point is if you can imagine a chalk board filled with words and there is no space to add any other words to the board unless some erasing is done.

Our minds are often filled to the brim with situation and circumstances we have experienced.? It can be very difficult to live in the moment, when our minds are consistently overloaded with past events.? Therefore, we must become cognizant of our thought life in order to overcome the cycle of pain.? The way to become more aware of ourselves is through meditation.?

If you can do this you will begin to discover, the YOU, you thought was YOU, is actually not YOU at all.? The world you believe is causing havoc on your life, is only an unresolved inner conflict.? If you can slow yourself down long enough to smell the roses and enjoy each given moment, you will begin to overcome the pain of the past.? The instant you begin to live in the moment and understand that the past is gone and has no effect on your present, life?begins to change.??It is the inner battle that hinders you, not the outer.? The outer is only the effect of the inner, therefore the inner causes the outer.? When you begin to understand this simple truth, peace will surely follow.??Peace Be With You and Forever Forgive.

Breathing resonates with our subconscious mind. It is not the job of our conscious mind. Just observe your breathe when you are relaxed, happy, angry or upset. To use breath as a meditation tool does not mean you have to control your breath. Of course, Yoga is a way in which breathing is the main focus while exercising.

If you are a little observant, you will notice that whenever you are angry, your breathing becomes faster. At such times, if you shift your focus from your breathing to your body, you would feel burning sensations on your body.

Breathing can be a great tool to control your anger or any upsetting emotion. Whether it is about past, present or future, whenever we find ourselves in a deep state of any negative emotion, the subconscious mind will respond. Human nature is such that we love to delve into past events and continue rehashing the incidences and negative self talks. This becomes a trap for the upcoming similar negative patterns. Without realizing we continue to harbor negative feelings which bring to surface our deep rooted emotions, feelings and sensations on the body level.

While this happens on the body level, our conscious mind reacts to whatever occurs physically or in the outer world. The reaction of the conscious mind multiplies these negative feelings or emotions which in turn get deeply seated in our subconscious mind.

Every thing begins with one single thought. This one thought attracts similar thoughts and these thoughts bring out the negative energy, pain, heat, anxiety and burning sensations from the subconscious to the surface level. Whenever we react, our subconscious mind looks for the similar patterns of feelings and emotions stored within, to return them back to the body or surface level. Here, the multiplication of negative energy in the subconscious mind starts.

When the sub conscious mind returns back to you what it finds deep within, the conscious mind reacts more. The more the conscious mind reacts the more similar negative feelings get generated and get stored deeply in our subconscious mind and the loop continues. This is how we multiply our miseries.

How to stop this on going loop? Simply by diverting your mind you can stop attracting negative thoughts. If you can divert your mind towards an external world then it’s a good quick remedy. E.g. immediately look for something good or think of your goal or any thing you like. It’s a very good temporary solution but it won’t give you the lasting results.? It will relax your mind for some time but it would not drive out the deep rooted enemy in you.

If you’re anything like me, I’m sure you’ve wondered — at some point — how to get a razor sharp mind. It is important to remain mentally capable in the workplace and at home for adults, and for children better concentration could lead to higher grades.

How to Get a Razor Sharp Mind

There are various natural solutions to this problem. We can try meditating, doing breathing exercises, solving crossword puzzles, relaxing and playing other mind-testing games like Sudoku.

These are all good and well, and I can tell you that some of them work for me. However, a scientifically proven method of keeping your mind sharp is to get DHA omega 3 fats into your body.

The proper growth, development and functioning of our brain is largely due to DHA. In fact, 30% of the adult brain is composed of DHA fatty acids and, without it, our brain begins to behave oddly.

One way this is revealed is when you see that DHA is responsible for the proper communication between neurons. However, a deficiency in DHA can result in a lack of this communication and an unhealthy brain.

You may find yourself unable to concentrate, focus or comprehend difficult concepts. You may even suffer from anxiety, depression and mood swings, all because of a deficiency in DHA.

This is why it’s important that our body has enough DHA. But the problem is that the body cannot produce DHA on its own, so we need to get it from an external source.

The richest source of DHA is fish like hoki, salmon, tuna and sardines. However, if you want to make sure you’re getting high levels of DHA, you’d be better of getting a fish supplement.

These should tell you on the label the amount of DHA you’re getting. You require about 500mg per day, so 250mg per capsule is good (2 capsules a day.)

Also, ensure that your supplement has been properly purified as this is what separates fish from fish supplements — the supplements are safer.

So there you have it, a guide on how to get a razor sharp mind. High levels of DHA are essential to this.

Sleeping disorders are very common. Close to 50 percent of the entire adult population experience insomnia. More than 55 percent, on the other hand, develop chronic sleeping disorder, which means there are definitely a lot of days when they are fully awake and sleep very little.

Sleep is an important body activity. It is the best time for the body to rest and heal itself. When you lack sleep, you will feel sluggish or exhausted easily. Your brain cannot function fully well, and sometimes you end up getting moody or frustrated all the time. Plenty of people who suffer from depression or anxiety also develop sleeping disorders.

There are different drugs you can take to make you sleep. However, they sometimes carry harmful body side effects. As much as possible, you want to have your treatment safe and pain free. Thus, scientists and doctors are looking at meditation as one of the best methods to reduce or treat sleeping disorders.

There are several benefits one can get from meditation in relation to sleep. First it relaxes the muscles and the mind. When you’re overly stressed, it’s common to be awake for many hours. The proper breathing exercises promoted by meditation make it easier for you to relax those tensed nerves prior to going to sleep. You will also discover that by doing so your sleep is completely uninterrupted. Moreover, you don’t suffer from nightmares, which can wake you up in the middle of the night and make you feel even more stressed.

Second, it releases serotonin. This is a hormone responsible for managing behaviors and moods. Those with very high levels of serotonin tend to be happier people. Furthermore, serotonin is a secret ingredient to getting rid of insomnia. It also helps manage obesity. Not a lot of people know that obesity can also disrupt sleep. It promotes sleep apnea, which is one of the main reasons why people snore. This is because there’s a blockage somewhere in the air passage.

Third, it helps clear your mind. Surely, you cannot get enough sleep if your mind is filled with a lot of worries. Meditation brings your attention to the present, not to the past or the future. This is necessary since these two periods are the times where most causes of anxiety are found. With a clear mind, it’s much easier for you to drive yourself to sleep.

It’s also an extra bonus that meditation permits you to accept subliminal messages or affirmations more conveniently. Subliminal messages have been used by health experts and psychotherapists in changing the mind-set of their patients. A very popular reason why you suffer from a sleeping disorder is because of the negative emotion or thought that is filling you up.

The subliminal messages can change all of them. They can help overpower these negativities, changing them to something more positive. By the time you wake up in the morning, you feel more refreshed, confident, and hopeful you can conquer your challenges. You are more motivated.

To be ill is one thing; to find out it’s life threatening is another. Yet millions of people are dying every day as diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disorders start to take charge of their lives.

There’s no doubt that being diagnosed with any serious illness can cause pain, trauma, depression, and anxiety. There’s always the question of whether you will get to live tomorrow or be with your loved ones for special occasions. This is also the time when you feel so hopeless and helpless. A lot of people who are deathly sick give up or even commit suicide than to wait for their moment to eventually die.

What you should learn is how to cope with your illness the best way you can. After all, what really matters is not the length of time you spend here on earth but how you get to spend it. In this case, when you are gravely ill, what you hope for is quality of life, one that is free from pain and depression and more of acceptance and even hope.

You can try meditation.

How Meditation Helps Patients

Meditation is an ancient mental exercise. It has been practiced for centuries. Certain religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism put so much importance to meditation, and they can spend hours doing nothing else but that.

Meditating is more than just a mystic process. It offers a lot of benefits. If it wasn’t so, the tradition would have not survived, and patients are some of the best people who can make the most out of it.

For one, meditation has the ability to clear and calm the mind. That means it can free you from worries and uncertainties. It also relaxes your body, mind, and soul, which is actually hard to achieve when something else is bothering you.

The process also provides quite a number of physical health benefits. It can reduce heart rate and blood pressure, making you less prone to heart attacks. It allows the proper flow of blood to different parts of the body. This means the cells can become nourished by the nutrients found in the blood. Meditation can boost the level of serotonin, which is a happy hormone. It improves your behavior and mood, as well as compels you to sleep well. Sleep is highly necessary for people who are sick. It also enhances the immune system.

Meditation works very well together with subliminal messages. Subliminal messages are often characterized as affirmations or auto suggestions. The main thrust of using subliminal messages is to change your present mind-set. Perhaps if you are currently in despair, meditation and the affirmations will change it to something of hope. For example,

I have the ability to rise above this physical ailment. I am not defined by my disease. There’s always tomorrow to provide me with hope. I am showered with a lot of love. I have the ability to accept this ailment with grace and fortitude. These subliminal messages are normally repeated during your meditation, allowing them to seep through your subconscious and form part of your new belief system.

Dan felt the sting of anger grow as he sat trapped in rush hour traffic. He yelled a profanity (with an accompanying gesture) at the fellow in a BMW who sped by in the commuter lane.

Then he caught himself as he noticed his heart pounding. He took in a deep breath and cleared his mind as he exhaled. He turned his attention inward and began breath meditation. After a few minutes of focusing on his breath, his heart rate slowed, his anger melted. He relaxed. Later Dan said, “Breath meditation is one of the most important things I learned after my heart attack. My doctor actually prescribed it.”

Breath meditation is a simple and easy way to gain greater self-awareness, peace, and health. It’s easy to learn and costs you nothing but a few minutes of your time. With breath meditation, you focus your attention on your breath, following its rhythmic movement as you inhale (breathe in air) and exhale (breathe out air).

Many major medical centers now consider meditation a valuable component of health management. You can use it to relax and gain mental clarity. You can use it to help relieve pain. You can use it during a painful or frightening procedure or an anxiety-provoking situation like public speaking or being stuck in traffic. You can use it to energize your body when you feel tired.

Here are two easy-to-do forms of breath meditation.

Breath Meditation

Start by dedicating about 5 minutes of uninterrupted time to your meditation. Always be kind and gentle with yourself. If your mind wanders, just bring your awareness back to your breath.
Sit relaxed with your back straight (not stiff) in a place that is comfortable for you. It can be on a chair with both feet on the floor or sitting with your legs folded up as in a modified lotus position (yoga style).Close you eyes or leave them partially open but unfocused. While breathing through your nose, bring your full awareness to your breath….not changing it in any way, just noticing it.

Form 1: Counting Breaths

As you focus on your breath, being aware of its sensation as it moves in and out of your body, simply count each breath in and each breath out.
Breathe in “one;” Breathe out “one.”Breathe in “two;” Breathe out “two.”And so on to ten.Continue repeating the counting breaths cycle (from 1 to 10) as often as you like.

Form 2: Counting Breaths Variation
Breathe in, bringing full awareness to the sensation of breathing. Feel the air as it moves through your nose and into your lungs. Feel the gentle rise of your abdomen. Breathe out, silently saying a word with deep meaning to you like “peace,” relax,” “joy,” “gratitude,” or another word that affirms you.Repeat ten times.Continue as often as you like.

When finished, take a few minutes to notice the effects of breath meditation. Did you notice more energy, peace, or relaxation?

Don’t worry if you got distracted or had difficulty concentrating. It’s expected in the beginning. Even those experienced in meditation get distracted some times. Meditation is a discipline. It takes practice and time to learn.

You can use breath meditation anytime and anywhere. Before meals, it helps you focus more on your eating. When focused on your eating, you enjoy food more, eat slower, and often eat less. Doing breath meditation before sleep releases your mind from the busyness of the day.

You may want to support your learning with a CD that provides instructions with peaceful music.

Breath meditation is a great way to begin meditating. It’s wonderful to become more aware of your breathing and its connection to the miracle of life. It costs you nothing. It is always with you, and helps you gain greater self-awareness, peace, and health. Enjoy breath meditation!

By now you already have an idea that meditation can definitely be good for the body, mind, and soul. Otherwise, it will not be practiced by millions of people all over the world, including the famed Buddhist monks.

However, it is also not surprising to hear people saying that meditation does not really change anything and is a just waste of time. Perhaps these are the individuals who have tried it before but were not able to reap the results they want. There is a very good explanation for it: they may have been doing meditation the wrong way.

Before you throw away the idea of meditating, you may want to know first the dos and don’ts when it comes to meditating:

Do find a good time to do it. Meditating is not something you can do just about any time, unless you are a certified expert (in fact, experts still find the best time to do it). Meditation requires your full attention and even concentration. Thus, it is essential you perform it when there is very little noise around. If you can, find a good spot and time when you are completely undisturbed.

Many do their meditation at the comforts of their own home, such as their living room and bedroom in the evening or first thing in the morning, when people are still asleep or before they do anything.

Do not push yourself too hard. If you are starting to meditate, you will notice that it takes a while before you get used to the practice. At first try, it is not easy for you to focus or to spend longer than 10 minutes with your eyes closed. It is okay. Do not overdo it. You can just make the practice more consistent by doing this as often as possible, so your body and mind will get used to it.

Do use subliminal messages. Subliminal messages can be words, images, or sounds that contain special meanings. They are important because they have the power to change your mind-set on so many things completely. Subliminal messages have been utilized by health experts such as dentists and doctors to remove the fear or anxiety of their patients. Many of those who meditate for several years use them to improve their outlook in life.

You can get subliminal messages in different ways. You can create positive affirmations that you can repeat many times during meditation. You may also purchase CDs and mp3s that already have them. You can play them in the background while you are in a meditative state.

Do not slouch. When you are meditating, it is essential you maintain proper posture. This means that your back is well aligned. There are two reasons for this. First it allows you to breathe in and out properly. Breathing is an important aspect in meditation since it brings you to the present moment and it allows proper circulation of the blood, which, in turn, relaxes you. Second, correct posture permits you to last as long as you can during meditation.

While it is no secret that the amount of benefits you will experience during a Yoga Nidra meditation are an almost endless amount, in this article, you will discover 3 of the most outstanding benefits you can expect to experience when you begin practicing Yoga Nidra on a daily basis.

3 Outstanding Benefits of Yoga Nidra!

Benefit #1 - Helps alleviate learning and attention problems – Whether you realize it or not when you practice Yoga Nidra on a daily basis you are also practicing your attention skills as well. Not only that, the level of stillness and quiet that this particular meditation technique tends to have on your mind and body allows you to begin to hear more of what you need to learn in a variety of different ways. In other words Yoga Nidra helps you learn and pay attention more.

Benefit #2 - Allows the mind to settle down which in turn helps the body to settle down – Tension, anxiety, and stress originate in the mind and tend to show up in the body. However, when you start dropping in to the deeper states of “Yogic Sleep” it allows your entire body and mind to relax in ways where the relaxation of the body begins to feed off the relaxation of the mind and vice versa. In other words, before you started practicing Yoga Nidra on a daily basis your body and mind were feeding each other stress, tension, and anxiety. Now, that you have started practicing this meditation technique on a daily basis your mind and body are feeding each other healthy doses of peace, stillness, and relaxation.

Benefit #3 – Certain aspects of the quiet and settled feeling stay with you long after you have finished meditating. After your first few times of doing Yoga Nidra you might begin to notice how much quieter the breath is and how still the mind is. However, what you will begin to notice when you start practicing on a daily basis is how much longer and with greater frequency and ease that stillness and quietness lasts in all ways, always.

Overall, when it comes to improving your life in so many different ways the experience of Yoga Nidra has been proven to transform your life in ways that you and others will notice as a definite improvement in your entire state of being.
