7 Ways to Be Happier
Can anyone ever be too happy? I don’t think so. It doesn’t matter why you are happy, assuming you are not a sociopath, but you are happy the world seems nicer. Your happiness spreads. Just as when you are with happy people, you ten to be happier. The world of course can use more happiness, as well as more food, kindness, and many other things. This article concentrates on happiness. Here are 7 ways to be happier.
1) Smile. You smile when you are happy, and smiling can help make you happy. People also smile back at you increasing overall happiness.
2) Purposely blow something off you really don’t enjoy that really doesn’t matter. For my mother this could be not ironing and folding the underwear, for my sister, not making her bed, and since I do neither of these I blew of my email for a day. It was so liberating I smiled and the next day the sun still came up.
3) Do something unexpected and kind for someone. You may or may not know them, and they may or may not know it was you. For example I slipped a quarter into an expired parking meter last week just as a parking cop was writing tickets. And yes, it made me smile.
4) Celebrate the small successes in life. The big successes are few and far between, and even if they aren’t, they’ll start to seem small. So celebrate in whatever way you find appropriate.
5) Forgive someone for something. That someone may be even be you. Stop being hard on people, including yourself, because no one is perfect. In fact, we are farther from perfect than can be imagined, and that’s absolutely cool. I forgive myself for eating those 2 big bags or Doritos today!
6) Do something nice for yourself. You deserve it and most people are not nearly as understanding or nice to themselves as they should be. My special thing for me today was a 5 minute lie down after lunch. I wish it could have been a full blown long nap, but the short rest was awesome!
7) Do something else not in the list, almost anything, that gives you specific happiness. Stop and small the roses or change your motor oil if you prefer. What makes you happy? Go for it.
Happiness is perhaps underrated. Working on improving happiness a little every day. It’s worth it!
